Until 1914 officer, Siberian Cossack Army. 1914-1917 fought in World War 1. 1918-1920 organized and led anti-Bolshevik Cossack force which operated in the Semipalatinsk and Semirech’ye area and was notable for its discipline and braver)'.
Ruthlessly suppressed a number of Bolshevik uprisings. May 1920, under pressure from the Red Army, retreated with part of his force into Western China, where he was interned and then imprisoned. 1924 released from prison and went to Mongolia.
1926 returned to Soviet territory, but was arrested in Sverdlovsk. August 1927 sentenced to death by military tribunal.
