1912 commenced lit activity in Warsaw. Fought in Civil War as comissar on Polish front. Was theoretician of Proletkul’t cultural and educational organisation and Lef lit group.
Propounded concept of "productive art,” demanding abolition of easel-painting and merger of art with the production of objects of material value. Tried to combine principles of formalism with sociological study of art Championed theory of ’’leftist art” in painting.
Nervous illness resulting from war injury forced him to retire from lit activity in late 1920’son
