In same year ordained Bishop of Nezhin and Vicar of Chernigov Eparchy. 1945-1947 Bishop of Chernigov and Nezhin. 1947 Bishop of Saratov and Volume(s)’sk.
1949 Bishop of Chkalov. 1950 Bishop of Berlin and Germany and acting Exarch of Moscow Patriarchy in Western Europe. 1951 elevated to archbishop: 1954 simultaneously in charge of Yaroslavl’ Eparchy.
1954-1962 Exarch of Moscow Patriarchy in North and South America with title of Archbishop of the Aleutians and North America. 1956-1959 simultaneously Archbishop of Odessa and Kherson. Until 1956 also in charge of Krasnodar Eparchy.
Until 1962 performed numerous diplomatic missions for Russian Orthodox Church. 1947 organized inauguration of Saratov Theological Seminary. 1950-1954 apart from managing parishes of Moscow Patriarchy in Germany also organized parishes in Switzerland, France and England.
Suggested inviting President of German Evangelical Church, Pastor Niemoeller to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. Campaigned for re-unification of Orthodox parishes in United States of America with Moscow Patriarchy and for return of emigres to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. Accompanied Patriarch Alcksiy on his trips abroad and foreign patriarchs during visits to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics.
Led Moscow Patriarchy deleg to Unified Church in Canada.
Honorary member, Moscow Theological Academy.
