Graduated from the Petersburg Theatre School. Pupil of K. Goleizovskii and M. Mordkin.
Career
In 1917, emigrated to Bulgaria. Taught in Sofia. Moved to Paris, 1924. From 1921-1929 with Diaghilev, then de Basil, and Rene Blum in the Ballets Russes.
Partner of Olga Spesivtseva. Taught at the Paris Opera Theatre, 1932-1934. In 1937, opened his own ballet school.
In 1953, taught at his own ballet school in Lausanne. Head of the International Academy of Choreography in Geneva. Taught in Rome and Athens.
