After the October Revolution 1917, left for Yalta in the Crimea in 1918. Travelled to Istanbul in 1919. Returned to Novorossiisk.
Emigrated in 1920 from Rostov to Istanbul. Moved to Paris in 1921. First poems appeared in 1928.
Became known for his poetry and his bohemian life-style. Died, in Paris, of poison given by a friend in a suicide pact. Became famous as the poete maudit of the Russian emigre literary scene in Paris between the world wars.
