As a student did botanical research in Yenisey Kray. 1908-1909 studied flora in Uryanskay Kray, 1912-1914 in Semirechensk Oblast, 1915 in the districts around Yerevan and Noyo — Bayazet, 1916 in Turkish Armenia and 1917 in Trabzon and Turkish Lazistan. 1918-1924 studied flora of Eastern Transcaucasus.
Member, Editorial Board, “Botanichesky zhurnal” (Botanical Journal). Editor, 11-volume work “Flora Zapadnoy Sibiri” (The Flora of Western Siberia) (1927-1946). 1914-1918 Assistant, Tomsk University, then drafted into army as medical officer.
1918-1924 associate, Caucasian Museum. 1925-1930 Professor, Tomsk University. 1931-1938 associate and 1938-1941 Director, Botanical Institute, USSR Academy of Science.
