Studied at mining institute
1902 expelled from Institute for participation in student revol movement. 1904 deported from Russia. Lived in Liege and worked for Foreign Bureau, Central Committee, Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party, smuggling lit and weapons into Russia.
1906 lived in Bulgaria, then returned to Russia but was soon arrested. Released upon the representations of the Bulgarian Government and moved to Liege, then to Bulgaria. 1909 moved to Paris and engaged in Party work.
1910 moved to Berlin and abandoned Party work. 1915 returned to Bulgaria and served in Bulgarian Army. 1917 served in Bulgarian embassy in Holland.
Resigned after end of World War 1. 1920-1935 Soviet trade plenipotentiary in Berlin. From 1926 Collegium member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics People's Commissariat of Foreign Affairs.
1934-1938 Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Deputy People's Commissar of Foreign Affairs. Arrested by State Security organs.
