1905-1906 in prison for revol activities. From 1920 taught at Moscow Higher Technical College. From 1921 at Moscow Institute of Rail Transport Engineer.
Also worked for Section for Sciences Study of Transport Problems, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. 1902 produced original designs and work methods for construction of installations at Vindava Portuguese. 1908 first to use slag blocks, later used extensively neutralize whirlpools.
First to use horizontal drilling in order to tap underground water and reinforce hillsides. Pioneered mechanization of track work. 1913 first to use pneumatic packing of sleepers on Russian railroads, devised formulas and simple techniques for determining the shortest distance between two points.
Designed and helped build major rail bridges and stations. Wrote several textbooks and sponsored introduction of a general course on railroads at transport engineering institutes.
