He is currently an Assistant Minority Whip. A political and social conservative as well as a homophobe, Klippert supports the death penalty, the Patriot Acting, and "limited" wiretapping of United States. citizens by the National Security Agency, and opposes abortion rights, same-sex marriage, and affirmative action. Murray was re-elected at the general election. Klippert ran in the Republican primary against former insurance corporation Chief Executive Officer Mike McGavick for the Senate seat held by Democrat Maria Cantwell. He came in distant second place, with seven percent of the vote against McGavick"s 85 percent.
