He also is the author of the book Trails of Testimony: Bringing Young Men to Christ. He has a masters degree in public administration from Brigham Young University. Among other leadership posts in Boy Scouts of America, Harris served as District Executive in Eugene, Oregon. Senior district executive in Walnut Creek, California.
And Field Director in Denver, Colorado.
He worked for five years at the National Council of the Boy Scouts of America, where he helped create the Venturing program
