He attended Albemarle High School and during his time there was named 1A All-State, four time All-Yadkin Valley, All-County selection and was named Louisville Slugger Second Team All-American. Holt attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
Career
He has played in minor league baseball as a starting pitcher. At North Carolina-Wilmington, Holt was named All-Civil Aeronautics Administration in the Civil Aeronautics Administration Tournament in 2006, and was named Civil Aeronautics Administration Pitcher of the Week in 2007. In 2006, Holt held VCU to two runs in 8.2 innings of work.
He went 3-3 and added wins against Duke and Louisiana Salle.
Holt started 15 games and went 5-5 in 2007 for the Seahawks with wins against Hofstra, George Mason and Texas Christian. Against Hofstra he struck out a career high seven and allowed only two hits in a shutout.
He set a career high 53 strikeouts and 76.1 innings pitched in 2007. Holt was drafted by the New York Mets in the first round with the 33rd overall pick in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft.
Baseball America has named him as the fourth best prospect in the Mets organization in 2009.
In 2009, Holt began the season with the Saint Lucie Mets. After going 3-1 with a 3.57 European Research Area, he was promoted to the Associate of Arts Eastern League Binghamton Mets. The Mets released Holt in March 2013.
