Brenda Elaine Brown-Paul was born on August 3, 1959, at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, to Earl R. Brown and Elouise J. Brown, née Grant. Raised in the Washington metropolitan area, she developed early interests in both the arts and technology, pursuits that later informed her academic preparation and professional trajectory.
Education
Brown-Paul earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Howard University in 1981, where she was recognized as a faculty scholar in 1977. She later pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Maryland beginning in 1990, expanding her expertise in information systems and related disciplines.
Career
Brown-Paul began her professional career as an office systems coordinator with the United States Postal Service in Washington, serving from 1984 to 1989. She then worked as a systems administrator for CKI in Rosslyn, Virginia, from 1989 to 1990, followed by a similar role at General Electric Aerospace in Reston, Virginia, from 1990 to 1993.
While at General Electric Aerospace, she participated in the Aerospace Diversity Council in 1991 and chaired the communications committee of the company’s diversity council from 1992 to 1993. In 1993, she became a consultant with Wang Laboratories in Bethesda, Maryland.
Beyond her corporate roles, Brown-Paul has been president of Glory To God, Inc., in Forestville, Maryland, since 1987 and a partner and consultant with Computer Tamers in Forestville beginning in 1989.
Membership
Brown-Paul served as leader of Troop 343 of the Girl Scouts of the United States in Washington from 1983 to 1984. She has been a member and former secretary of Helping Hands Christian Fellowship, Inc., in Washington since 1983, and has been affiliated with the Helping Hands Club of Springfield Baptist Church since 1990.
