Career
He is the author of a biography of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, The Romney Files, a book about personal finance, Storm Proof Your Money., and a book about sports gambling, Spread Betting: A Football Fan"s Guide. He wrote a weekly column for Smart Money before the magazine closed. Arends has been a columnist for the Wall Street Journal, and for other Dow Jones publications including MarketWatch.com, since 2007.
He was also a contributing editor for Smart Money magazine until it closed in 2012.
Prior to joining the Wall Street Journal, he had been a columnist and reporter for the Boston Herald and TheStreet.com, and a writer for Private Eye and the Daily Mail in London. He has appeared on 60 Minutes, the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, Consumer News and Business Channel, Microsoft and National Broadcasting Company, Cable News Network, the John Batchelor Show, and many other radio and television programs.
Arends is a former analyst and consultant for McKinsey & Company He was educated at Cambridge and Oxford universities.
