Career
Joined New South Wales Cavalry Regiment as 2nd Lieutenant, 1886. Joined Queensland Mounted Infantry Regiment, 1890. Served in the Queensland Police with temporary rank of Sub - Inspector, 1894-1895.
Appointed to permanent staff, 1896. Served in South Africa as Adjutant and afterwards as Commanding Officer 1st contingent Q.M.I. Afterwards as Commanding Officer 7th Battalion Australian Commonwealth Horse, with temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.
Decorated for service in South Africa (despatches, Companion of St. Michael and St. George, Queen’s medal, four clasps). Aide-de-camp to His Excellency The Governor - General of Australia; Australian Permanent Staff; A. Attorney - General and C.S.O. Queensland.
