Brian Walter Coe attended University College in Hull, England, from 1949 to 1952.
Brian Walter Coe has been employed by Kodak Ltd. since 1952 in a variety of positions. Since 1969 he has been curator of the Kodak Museum. Previously Brian Walter Coe was a lecturer in the Kodak Education Service (1961-1969), a lecturer for Kodak Lecture Service (1955-1961), and worked for Kodak Research Laboratory (1953-1955) and Kodak Standards Laboratory (1952-1953).
Brian Walter Coe made three films between 1962 and 1965, a series entitled The Fundamentals of Film Making.

Brian Walter Coe is an honorary member of New York Photo Historical Society (since 1978) and an honorary corresponding member of DGPh (since 1979). He was named a fellow of British Kinematography, Sound, and Television Society in 1973 and the Royal Society of Arts in 1980.
Larger than life, with wide enthusiasms and great generosity, Brian Walter Coe was an excellent cook, a lifelong Guardian reader and a tireless supporter of other historians and photographers. His friends and family - sustained by his energy and erudition, his collegiality and kindly spirit, and his marvellous dinners - will find him irreplaceable.
His marriage ended in divorce. Brian Walter Coe is survived by a daughter, Angela, son Ian, and six grandchildren.
