Repeatedly arrested and exiled. Served terms of solitary confinement and hard labor. Delcg. 6th Party Congress.
1906 worked for journals “Vcstnik zhizni", “Volna” and “Nasha mysl’”. 1912 — 14 with newspapers “Zvezda”, “Nevskaya zvezda” and “Pravda”. 1917 worked for “Izvestiya Petrogradskogo Soveta rabochikh i soldatskikh deputatov” and contributed to “Pravda”.
1917 member, Petrograd Soviet of Workers and Soldiers’ Deputy and member, Soviet Central Executive Committee. Worked for Secretariat, Central Committee, Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks). After 1917 October Revol secretary, All-Russian Central Executive Committee.
Chairman, Supreme Tribunal. Active in Polish and Lith Social-Democratic Group and Polish Bureau, Central Committee, Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks). 1919 headed Russian Red Cross deleg to Warsaw.
