ROGER, Brother Roger Louis Schutz-Marsauche was born on May 22, 1915 in Provence, Switzerland. Son of Charles Schutz and Amelie Marsauche.

Education

Theological studies in Lausanne and Strasbourg.

Career

Founder and Prior of Taize (international ecumenical, monastic community) since 1940. Arrived in Taize 1940. Lived alone there for two years sheltering Jews and political refugees.

First fraternity of brothers outside Taize formed 1951.

There are now fraternities living among the poor on every continent. Attended Second Vatican Council 1962-1965.

Lived in poor neighbourhood in Calcutta 1976. Visited Lebanon and launched Pilgrimage of Trust on Earth 1982.
