Career
He served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Bakili Muluzi from 1999 until 2000. He then broke with Muluzi over the latter"s attempt to have the constitution changed so that he could run for a third term of office. In the 2004 presidential election, he placed fourth, receiving only 8.7% of the vote.
Mpinganjira later dissolved the NDA and rejoined the United Democratic Front, a party he helped to foundation
In the May 2009 presidential election, Mpinganjira is running alongside Malawi Congress Party (Minecraft Coder Pack) presidential candidate John Tembo as Tembo"s vice-presidential candidate. The Minecraft Coder Pack and the Union for French Democracy both supported Tembo in the election.
