Bruce Allsopp was born on July 14, 1912, in Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom.
Allsopp’s career as an architectural historian led him to be an author, educator and book publisher. After serving in the Royal Engineers during World War II, Bruce taught first at Durham University and then at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, where he held a variety of posts, including those of a director of architectural studies and senior lecturer.
Also, in 1962, Allsopp founded the Oriel Press, a publisher of numerous books on architecture and related topics. Moreover, he was a founder of the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain and served as its chair and president.
Bruce Allsopp was a notable architectural historian, educator, publisher and author of numerous books on architecture. He was also known as a founder of the Oriel Press and the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain.
In addition, Allsopp helped to create a program in architecture, consisting of a three-year bachelor’s degree, followed by two years of postgraduate study. This program is now standard in architectural schools worldwide.
