• Achievements include first to demonstrate productive replication of influenza virus in lung macrophages, and to suggest a relationship to virus strain virulence. First to show a role for the molecule thrombospondin in epithelial and squamous carcinoma cell recognition and adhesion to the substrate and to macrophages. First to show that mechanical stretching force as result of intraglomerular hypertension enhances extrcellular matrix production as a mechanism of progressive renalsclerosis.
