Education
He graduated in economics at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (Université libre de Bruxelles (Free University of Brussels)) in 1995 and obtained a Master (Drug Enforcement Administration) in Econometrics at the Université libre de Bruxelles (Free University of Brussels) in 1994. In 1998, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics at the Université libre de Bruxelles (Free University of Brussels).
Career
He is a Full-Time Professor at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management (Business School-EM), Brussels, Belgium, of which he is the Dean since 2011, and a Senior Fellow at the Bruegel think-tank in Brussels. From September 1996 to September 1997, he was a research fellow at the Université libre de Bruxelles (Free University of Brussels). From November 2005 to December 2007 he was chief economist at the European Patent Office (EPO). In October 1999, he became Associate Professor at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management of the Université libre de Bruxelles (Free University of Brussels), holding the Solvay Chair of Innovation, where he is now a Full-Time Professor since October 2008.
He was also a Honorary Professor at the School of Business, Management and Economics of the University of Sussex from January
2010 to December 2012.
