By the Battle of Kursk Meyer commanded the IV (tank-buster) Gruppe of Schlachtgeschwader 9 based near Mikoyanovka, equipped with the Henschel Hs-129 armoured ground-support aircraft. Served as Kommandeur of IV./SG 9 in October 1944 flying the Henschel Hs 129B. His last command was I./SG 104, flying the Fw 190F & G and the Ju 87 Doctorate & G. Meyer flew at least 500 missions, and claimed about 50 tanks destroyed. Following the end of the Second World War he continued flying helicopters.
