Studied at Cracow University.
1918 began lit career as Futurist. Sided with Polish pro-Communist organizations. From 1924 worked for Communist newspaper “Rabochaya tribuna”.
1925 emigrated to Paris and joined French Communist Party. With the help of Polish emigres founded and wrote plays for Proletarian Touring Theater. 1929 deported from France for his novel “I Burn Paris”.
1931 moved to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics; worked with writers’ teams which visited the major construction projects. At 2nd International Conference of Writers elected secretary, International Association of Revol Writers and appointed ed of its central organ “Literatura mirovoy revolyutsii”. 1937 arrested by State Security organs on charges of espionage.
All his books were confiscated.
