Bunji Kimura was taught the art of yuzen (printed muslin) dyeing at an early age by Unsho Wada (1905) and later entered the Ishikawa Prefectural Technical Institute. At the same time he received instruction in Japanese painting from Kinyo Onishi.
Bunji Kimura came into the limelight when his work was accepted at the Imperial Academy's 9th Exhibition (1928). Since then his works have been exhibited every year at national art shows and he achieved new fame at the 15th Exhibition (1940). He was a judge at Ministry of Education’s 3rd Exhibition (1939).
