Bunkichi Tanaka was born in 1890 in Tokyo.
He graduated from Furitsu Shokusen Gakko (Tokyo Prefectural Weaving & Dyeing School) (1909).
He served as chief director of Ome Weaving Industry Cooperative Union (1948) and official of several other local organizations. He founded and became president of Ome Municipal Chamber of Commerce & Industry (1952).
He was appointed director of Japan Cotton and Staple Fiber Weaving Industry Association (1952), president of Hojinkai (Judicial Persons' Society) (1952) and chief director of Ome Weavers' Union, Tokyo. He received official commendation from governor of Tokyo for his service in weaving industry.
