He also was an All-American defenseman for the British Columbia Eagles ice hockey team From 1947 to 1949, Songin was the starting quarterback for the Eagles. Songin was a All-American for in 1948.

Songin also played 1 game for the Worcester Warriors of the Eastern League during the 1954-1955 season. In 1960 Songin signed with the Boston Patriots of the newly created On September 9, 1960, Songin played in the first ever American Federation of Labor-Congress game, against the Denver Broncos.
In his first season with Boston he completed 187 of 392 passes for 2,476 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. In 1961 he split starting duties with Babe Parilli.
He completed 98 of 212 passes for 1,429 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions.
In 1962 he was the opening day quarterback for the New York Titans, but was replaced by Lee Grosscup. He played in 7 games, completing 42 of 90 passes for 442 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. From 1953-1954, Songin played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Rugby Union, predecessor of the League.
Songin died of cancer May 12, 1976 at his home in Foxboro, Master of Arts. He was 52 years old.
At the time of his death, he was chief probation officer in the Wrentham District Court.
