He graduated Magna Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical, later earning his Doctorate in Economics from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical as well.
Schlomach has been married for three decades, has three children and currently resides in Piedmont, Oklahoma with his family. Schlomach has been involved in government and economics since the mid-1980s, first in Texas and then in Arizona. Schlomach cites that his philosophy has been influenced by the work of Milton Friedman, Field Artillery Hayek, Thomas Sowell and Steve Pejovich.
In Texas, Schlomach studied property taxes, and advocated passing the Charter School law.
He has researched and written on tax and spending policy in two states in addition to studying transportation, health care, and education policy. Currently, Doctor Schlomach studies Transportation, Government Transparency and Privatization at the Goldwater Institute.
He has been a major voice in calling for the adoption of budget transparency laws that would put state and local government budgets on the web, including Public School Budgets. Schlomach also favors putting local school board elections online, arguing it would increase transparency and accountability.
He has also advocated for the privatization of State Parks, which he believes would save Arizona taxpayer money and keep the state from having to close a number of locations. He is critical of the federal stimulus, favors market-based reforms for the health care industry, and supports tax cuts.
His career includes work for several members of the Texas House of Representatives, including Kent Grusendorf of Arlington, as well as the office of state comptroller, and the Texas Public Policy Foundation, of which he was the chief economist.
