Qadir, C. A. was born on November 4, 1909.
President of the Pakistan Philosophical Congress. Professor of Philosophy, University of Punjab.
Qadir combines aspects of logical positivism, conceptual analysis, existentialism and psychoanalysis in his approach to philosophy. Logical positivism, he maintains, is very useful in dealing with science but not helpful in dealing with problems relating to personal existence, where existentialism is more appropriate. Even dialectical materialism has a role to play in explaining the importance of the material modes of production. Philosophy and science are related to religious thought yet have put Islamic traditions under strain. This has led to the necessity to defend and justify Islam within the context of the world of science, a perfectly possible procedure provided that one selects the appropriate philosophical technique. The twentieth century has witnessed a great deal of progress in Islamic science and philosophy, and this can be seen to extend the tradition of Islamic philosophy and science into a new and important future role.
