C.H. Haidaroos (Hydrose) Musliyar was an Indian Islamic scholar, educator, and religious leader from Kerala. He was a graduate of Baqiyat al-Salihat in Vellore, a senior leader of Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyathul Ulama, and one of the founding figures of Darul Huda Islamic Academy, which later developed into Darul Huda Islamic University.
Background
Haidaroos Musliyar was born on 10 December 1930 in Valakkulam, Malappuram District, Kerala, India. (Some later sources give 3 September 1933 and Puthupparamba as his birth date and place.) He was the son of Chirangan (Cheerangan) Muhammed Musliyar and Fathima. His mother died shortly after his birth at the age of seventeen, and he was subsequently raised by relatives and foster mothers.
His father was an Islamic scholar who had studied under Abdul Bari Musliyar. On Abdul Bari Musliyar's recommendation, he became khatib of Palppura Juma Masjid, where he served until his death. He was also active in Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyathul Ulama and other religious and community organizations.
Growing up in a family with a long tradition of Islamic scholarship, Haidaroos Musliyar was exposed from an early age to leading scholars who frequently visited his village for religious gatherings and educational conferences.
Education
At the age of five he began his education in the local madrasa and school before entering the traditional dars system of higher Islamic learning.
He first studied at Klari Moochikkal Juma Masjid under C.H. Muhammed Kutty Musliyar, where he learned the foundations of Arabic and Islamic studies. He later continued his education at Cheroor Juma Masjid under the scholar Ponmala Moideen Haji Musliyar.
In 1953 he entered Baqiyat al-Salihat in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, one of South India's leading Islamic seminaries. Among his fellow students were T.K.M. Bava Musliyar and M.M. Basheer Musliyar. He completed his studies in 1955 and received the title Baqawi.
Career
Following his graduation, Haidaroos Musliyar devoted himself to Islamic education, religious teaching, and community service throughout Kerala. He initially served as a teacher in Islamic institutions, including those at Orakam and Edakkulam, where he trained numerous students who later became prominent scholars.
He became closely associated with Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyathul Ulama and eventually served as one of its senior office bearers. Throughout his career he worked to strengthen Islamic education, establish madrasas and mosques, and support local Mahallu Jama'aths across Kerala. He also played a role in the formation of the Sunni Mahallu Federation.
One of the most significant achievements of his career was his participation in the establishment of Darul Huda Islamic Academy. Together with Dr. U. Bapputty Haji, M.M. Basheer Musliyar, Chemmukkan Kunnhappu Haji, Saidalavi Haji, and other community leaders, he helped develop the concept of an institution that would integrate traditional Islamic scholarship with modern education.
The foundation stone of Darul Huda Islamic Academy was laid on 25 December 1983, and the institution was inaugurated on 25 June 1986. Haidaroos Musliyar also supported the establishment of Urdu-medium educational programs on the campus. He later served as President of Darul Huda Islamic Academy from 1989 to 1993.
Many of his students went on to become respected scholars, including Dr. Bahauddeen Muhammed Nadwi and P.P. Muhammed Faizee.
He was hospitalized in April 1994 because of illness, was discharged after approximately ten days, but his health deteriorated again shortly afterward. He died in May 1994.
Membership
Haidaroos Musliyar was a senior member of Samastha Kerala Jam'iyyathul Ulama, Kerala's leading organization of Sunni Islamic scholars. Through the organization, he participated in religious education, community leadership, and the development of Islamic institutions across the state.
