A self-trained architect-builder of the late eighteenth century, a record of most noted work in Providence has been preserved, the original building of the first Congregational Meeting House at the corner of Benevolent and Benefit Streets. The edifice designed in the Classic style and built with two towers stood until 1816, when superseded by a new church designed by John Holden Creene, now the church home of the Unitarian congregation.
Mr Ormsbee is also credited with the design of several residences in Providence, of which the Joseph Nightingale house dating from 1792 and still standing, is the best known.
