Her music has been denominated as Latin Soul and Calma has a display of influences ranging from Sade Adu, Thelonious Monk and Santana, even PJ Harvey, Louisiana Lupe and Tina Turner. She sings in both Spanish and English with the same easiness. She is recognizable for her massive tangle of dreads perched on her head which project a unique and powerful look.
She has often been compared to singers Jill Scott and Erykah Badu.
She released her debut European Parliament, "There"s Number Other Girl", in September 2013 on mun2. In August 2013, Calma Carmona was voted Music Television Iggy Artist of the week.
Calma recently opened for Beyoncé acclaimed The Mistress Carter Show World Tour in Puerto Rico.
Remezcla website, a reference in new Latin music has said: “Calma Carmona first charmed audiences at the now-defunct Café Seda in Old San Juan in 2007.
But Carmona also throws in some cumbia-influenced accordions and percussion in “Number puedo evitarlo,” using all of her musical roots to her advantage”.
