Calvin Massey finished Whitman College, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in 1969. In 1971 he earned his Master of Business Administration from Harvard University. In 1974 he obtained from Columbia University Juris Doctor degree.
Starting from 1987 Mr. Massey worked at University of California, Hastings College of the Law, San Francisco, holding the position of professor of law. He was a contributor to books, including The Rights Retained by the People: The History and Meaning of the Ninth Constitution, Volume II: Flag Burning and the Law, etc.
He married Martha Miller (a musician) on December 21, 1974.
