Career

Deacon, 1904, priest, 1905, Protestant Episcopal Church. Missionary in Florida, 1904-1914. Vicar St. Augustine’s Church, Rhinelander, Wisconsin, 1914-1922.

Rector St. Paul’s Church, Peoria, Illinois, 1922-1925. Examination chaplain Diocese of Quincy, Illinois, 1922-1925. Elected bishop coadjutor of Diocese of Northern Indiana, January 21, 1925, but on account of death of Bishop John Hazen White did not become coadjutor.

Consecrated bishop of Diocese of Northern Indiana, May 1, 1925. Selected St. Paul’s Church, Mishawaka, Indiana, as pro-cathedral (temporary).

Achievements

• In 1925, Gray was awarded a D.D. by Nashotah House and in 1926 he received another D.D. from Sewanee and an S.T.D. from General Theological Seminary.
