Payne studied acting at the First All Children"s Theater, an off-Broadway repertory theatre company. He attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in New York and Howard University.

He is best known for his role as Cole Brown on the television series Martin. Payne played Reynaldo Saint James on the Black Entertainment Television series The Game. Most recently, Payne wrapped filming for General Medical Council/Aspire’s new television show Foreign Richer or Foreign Poorer starring Letoya Luckett and Rockmond Dunbar.
The series is set to air in 2013.
Payne can be seen currently playing an Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, and later as Federal Communication Commission field agent on The Rickey Smiley Show.
