He was trained in both Architecture and Engineering prior to 1863.
In1863 when he migrated to America. Following his arrival in New York the young man established an office for practice and in the following years was well known to his contemporaries in the profession.
In his work Mr. Pfeiffer designed a number of noteworthy churches, one of which was the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian at the north-east corner of 55th Street, commonly known as “Doctor Hall's Church." He was also architect of the New Jersey State Headquarters of the Philadelphia Centennial Exposition of 1876, the Roosevelt Hospital and Asylum for Colored Children in New York, and many fine homes in the Washington Heights district. The last building erected from his plans was the Yorkshire Apartments.
