Foreign the businessman, see Carlos Tavares. Born in Almada, Setúbal District, Carlitos started his senior career in 2012, with amateurs Sintrense Futebol Clube. In the following year, aged 20, he signed for Doxa Katokopias F.C. in the Cypriot First Division.
On 26 January of the following year he scored his first goal for the club, in a 1–2 loss at Apollon Limassol.
