(This psychological detective novel explores the once larg...)
This psychological detective novel explores the once largely unacknowledged-not only soldiers get post-traumatic stress disorder: that child abuse whether it is overt or covert incest, is a time bomb. Lily's Odyssey unfolds with the inevitability, impact, and resolution of an ancient Greek play. The dialogue rings true, the journey conveyed with moods and half-tones, to portray fragmented Midwestern characters with poignancy. From child to grandmother, Lily's voyage is told with lyricism, humor, and irony through a poet's voice to distill American life in religion, marriage, and family. A contemporary odyssey without maps by a woman short listed for the 2009 Eric Hoffer Award for Best New Writing, a National Federation of State Poetry Societies Award Winner.

(Designed to help teachers and librarians introduce studen...)
Designed to help teachers and librarians introduce students to reference tools in a way that is memorable and fun, the material in this book was developed for use with grades 7-12, an age group that seems often neglected in the publishing of "teaching" puzzles. The puzzles use basic reference sources such as almanacs, encyclopedias, atlases, dictionaries, thesauri and quotation books. The vast majority of the questions can be answered by using these basic works. Some questions may be answered by using the card catalog and other library resources such as the vertical file. There are 80 activities in all--20 each of crosswords (arranged according to the number of clues, beginning with the shortest puzzles); word searches (blocks of letters in which certain words can be found running horizontally or vertically), multiple choice (thirty questions with a choice of five answers each); and match-ups (a list of 30 questions per activity followed by a list of 30 partially completed answers in scrambled order).

(Designed to help teachers and librarians introduce studen...)
Designed to help teachers and librarians introduce students to basic reference tools in a way that is fun, these new puzzles and games provide challenging enrichment opportunities using basic library tools-dictionaries, thesauri, almanacs, encyclopedias, atlases and others. The puzzles range from easy to hard. Crossword puzzles are used to sharpen students' skills in geography, English, history, and science. Word searches are followed by questions that are answered with words found in the puzzles. Multiple choice questions are to be answered using reference materials that are found in most school libraries or media centers. Twenty "match-up" exercises challenge the students with a list of 30 questions followed by mostly missing letter answers ("_R___E") in scrambled order.
