Career
Gilman, a Republican, served in the Maine State Senate from 2002-2004, representing her residence in Westbrook, Maine and nearby areas of Cumberland County. She was defeated for re-election in 2004 by Democrat Philosophy Bartlett after redistricting changed the district. Gilman earned a Associate of Arts from Westbrook College in 1959.

Carolyn and Robert have five children. Jennifer Parent of Westbrook, Master of Engineering. Robert West. Gilman Junior. of Houston, Texas. who spent his youth spending time with Ron Doyon at the black bridge in Westbrook, Maine.
