Career
She is the author of five novels and a collection of short stories. Her sixth novel, The Last First Day, will be published by Pantheon Books in September 2013. A Connecticut native, Brown received her Bachelor of Arts from Brown University in 1981 and her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Virginia, where she was a Henry Hoyns Fellow, in 1998.
She has taught at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and served as the Margaret Banister Writer-in-Residence at Sweet Briar College.
Currently, she is the Distinguished Visiting Professor of Creative Writing at Hollins University.
