Blue went to Boston University, where she completed her bachelor's degree in 1964. She studied commercial photography at Los Angeles Trade Technical College from 1970 to 1972 and was a candidate for a Master of Fine Arts degree at the UCLA Film School.
In 1979 she received an independent film maker's grant from the American Film Institute; she was awarded the Gold Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival.
Blue's most recent film was Varnette’s World: A Study of a Young Artist, in 1980. Her film Two Women (1976) won second place in the 1977 Virgin Islands International Film Festival and a Certificate of Merit at the 1977 Chicago International Film Festival.
Blue is a member of the African Film Society, the American Film Institute, the Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers, the Friends of Photography, the Los Angeles Center for Photographic Studies and SPE.
