Admitted to South Carolina. bar, 1897, and began practice at Saluda. United States commissioner, 1907-1911. Served many times as special judge Circuit Court and as acting Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of South Carolina.

Member State Board of Education, 1912-1914. Government agent War Draft Board, 1917-1918. Attorney for South Carolina.

Canal Commission, 1923-1925. President Planters National Bank, Saluda, 1916. Member En Banc Court (highest appeal court in state).
