Commissioned by the Colorado Wind Ensemble, Hold This Boy and Listen is inspired by Carter Pann's young nephew, David Paulus, Jr. It is unusually quiet and subdued for a wind band composition, and will prove to be a great exercise in restraint for developing players. Pann currently teaches composition and theory at the University of Colorado at Boulder.
He has also received awards and recognition from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Masterprize, the American Composers Orchestra, American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, the K. Serocki Competition in Poland, the Zoltan Kodaly and Francois d"Albert Concours Internationales de Composition, and a concerto commission for clarinettist Richard Stoltzman.
