(Mental toughness is the art of turning promise into perfo...)
Mental toughness is the art of turning promise into performance. It's about individuals taking control of their lives in order to gain the most from their abilities. In baseball, every at-bat or pitch is a test of mental toughness, particularly as players advance to higher levels. Here Karl Kuehl, John Kuehl, and Casey Tefertiller, working from vast combined experience, have broken down the elements of mental toughness into an easily understood package. Not only baseball players but other athletes as well as managers, coaches, and parents can learn how such elements as attitude, confidence, and the ability to focus and make adjustments are built and how they can help players reach their maximum performance. In Mental Toughness, many leading professional players share their insights and offer a glimpse into the minds of major leaguers - how they think and why they act in the ways they do.

Casey Tefertiller is a former writer for the San Francisco Examiner, the position he held from 1981 till 1995. In 1995 he became a freelance writer. He served as beat writer for the San Francisco Giants, then the Oakland Athletics. Now he is the author at True West Magazine. In 1997 he wrote his first book Wyatt Earp: The Life Behind the Legend. The new information presented in this book provides the first true understanding of Earp and the circumstances that led to his lingering fame. In addition, the book tells the reasons why his story endures through time and why it matters today. This book is an unbiased report of the storied life of lawman Wyatt Earp, a villain and a hero in Tombstone, Arizona, both before and after his death in 1929. Tefertiller draws on newspaper articles and personal accounts by Earp's friends, enemies, and acquaintances. The result is a fresh look at legendary events, showing how the image of Earp was formed.
Tefertiller is also the co-author of Mental Toughness: A Champion's State of Mind (2005) and Mental Toughness: Baseball's Winning Edge (2006). In 2016 he wrote a book Wyatt Earp's Last Deputy. In this book, Casey Tefertiller unpacks the legend of Wyatt Earp and exposes the falsehoods perpetrated by many, including Earp himself. Tefertiller is known as a contributor to magazines including Baseball America as well.
