Career

Telegrapher, Leavenworth, Kansas, at 15. Enlisted in the United States Vols., at 16, in military telegraph and engineer corps. Private secretary to General Lyon.

Chief deputy United States marshal, Western District Arkansas, 1876-1886. Receiver United States Land Office, Guthrie, Oklahoma Ty., 1899. Admitted to bar, 1893.

Member 3d and 4th legislatures, Oklahoma Ty., 1895-1897 (speaker, 1895). Governor of Oklahoma Ty., 1897-1901. Mayor of Guthrie, 1903-1905 and 1907-1909.
