The life and correspondence of Mary Mapes Dodge, an author and editor in the 19th century, most famous for the book Hans Brinker or, the Silver Skates. She produced, for Scribner's, the children's magazine St. Nicholas. Through its pages she introduced works for children by the great authors of the time including Kipling, Mark Twain, and Frances Hodgson Burnet.
