Catherine was working for several years in a bank. In 1986 - 1993 she was a journalist at Westpac Banking Corporation in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. She is now a full-time writer, residing in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales.
Catherine has won a great number of awards, including the Children's Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Award four times, the Victorian Premier's Literary Award, the Aurealis Award for science fiction, the IBBY Australia Ena Noel Encouragement Award, the Adelaide Festival Award, and the Davitt Award for crime fiction.
The author is better known for creating a twelfth-century ragamuffin character named Pagan Kidrouk, squire to Lord Roland during the last days of the Crusades.
