Cesar Alard

Background

Cesar was born on May 4, 1837, Gosselies, Hainaut, Belgium in the merchant family of Felix Alard and Marie Beatrice Caroline Gillaine Denison.

Career

He was cellist at the Jullien Orchestra in London and later at the Orchester Pasdeloup in Paris. In 1866 he was to be found in an orchestra in Havana and in 1868 in an orchestra in New York City . He returned to Paris in 1870, which was not wise, because the Franco-German War broke out. He fled to Brussels and from there to Amsterdam, where he became cellist of the Palace Orchestra of Johannes Meinardus Coenen, belonging to the Paleis voor Volksvlijt . He has only played there for a number of years, was involved in performances of chamber music and left again, presumably to Paris.
