His nickname was "Fat Chi Chai"(Chinese: 發枝仔) which means "Fat Chi boy" in Chinese. The name is very similar how Brazilians added "dinho" to younger players. Chan Fat Chi was a forward.
He played for Bulova, Seiko, South China Associate of Arts and Instant-Dict Football Club. He was Hong Kong Player of the year twice in 1988 and 1989.
He played on the famous Hong Kong victory over China on May 19, 1985.
