He represented the Kangra Chamba constituency of Himachal Pradesh as Member of Parliament 2004 to 2009. His political career started off when he was elected first time to Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha as Member of Legislative Assembly(Modern Language Association) from Guler(now Jawali) constituency.
