Career
Doherty played the role from 1965 until she left the series in 1967. Doherty was replaced in the role by Catherine Dunn, who was in turn replaced by Catherine Ferrar before Susan Seaforth Hayes signed on to play the role long-term. She also played the role of Nancy in the 1965 movie Village of the Giants.
She also directed and starred in local theater productions and was active in a non-profit group that federal the homeless.
Doherty died in 1988 at the age of 41. She died of "natural causes" at her mother"s home in Woodland Hills, California on May 29, 1988.
The cause of death was listed as pancreatitis, due to chronic alcoholism. She was survived by a son, Trevor Black and her mother, Toni Doherty.
